We’re actively addressing climate change and investing in greenhouse gas emissions reduction to transform BlueScope. We’re on track to reach our 2030 goals and are exploring and collaborating to pursue emerging technologies to work towards our 2050 net zero goal. We’re trialling biocarbon as an alternative to coking coal in our ironmaking process, increasing the use of scrap steel in our steelmaking and partnering with our value chain, including key suppliers Rio Tinto and BHP, on iron and steelmaking technology developments.
We publish Environmental Product Declarations, have achieved ecolabels for a range of our products and our Port Kembla Steelworks and Western Port site have received ResponsibleSteel™ certification. We see a strong future for steel, for its strength, durability, longevity, recyclability, and in some cases, reusability and for its role in Australia's transition to renewable energy.

Before graduating I was doing research on renewable steel rolling, and I’m interested in the hydrogen furnace and making steel in the future. Something I’m really interested in and passionate about is how we can keep making steel but at a net-zero rate.
