A culture of health and safety

Safety is our number one priority at BlueScope, and we see being a leader in safety as a continuous learning journey. We support all our people to work safely, identify risks and develop ways to protect the health and safety of themselves and their colleagues. In 2023, BlueScope was recognised for Excellence in Safety and Health Management Practices by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Increasingly, integrating new technology is key to building our capability in safety. We are working to transform processes using automation and re-engineering processes to reduce manual effort, which is improving productivity and enhancing our employee experience. At our Port Kembla Steelworks, we have onsite health advisors, occupational nurses and physiotherapists 20bet casino appto support our employees. There are physiotherapists at Western Port and our other rural and metro sites, where we’re continuing to expand our offer of on-site physiotherapy.

We care about our people’s wellbeing

Our Health and Wellbeing at Work Model applies an integrated approach to taking action and identifying opportunities as we seek to protect, support and promote the health and wellbeing of our people. Our strong culture of leadership is focused on care.

We provide an extensive health and wellbeing program to support all our employees. It includes a generous bundle of free, anonymous counselling, financial and legal support, as well as an online platform with several wellbeing resources and self-help tools, including fitness, nutrition, social and mental wellbeing applications.

At BlueScope we’re normalising flexible work and all our positions have some degree of flexibility. Under our B-Flex: Flexible Work Guideline we support our people to explore arrangements that make sense for them and their team, plus our business and our customers.

Building on the strong foundation of our inclusive culture

We are committed to being an inclusive workplace where people belong and which reflects the diversity of the communities in which we operate, while supporting under-represented groups. We welcome people of varied ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, family status, experience, perspectives and religious belief.

Since 2022, BlueScope has been named an Inclusive Employer by the Diversity Council of Australia (DCA). We are a proud signatory to the 40:40:20 Vision, an initiative to achieve gender balance in executive leadership across all ASX200 companies by 2030. (Our Executive and Board are 40per cent female). In Australia, we’re progressing initiatives including a gender-neutral and inclusive parental leave policy, flexible work guidelines, a growing pipeline of women in STEM positions, enhanced domestic-violence leave provisions and forums for women to connect.

To build a culturally safe workplace for First Nations people, we provide a variety of cultural awareness learning and training opportunities to increase our people's understanding and appreciation of First Nations cultures.
